About

Made in Taiwan

Yorkshire blood, Pingtung heart.

洪比利 Billy Walshaw is a British-Paiwan singer-songwriter born between two worlds — the moors of Yorkshire and a Paiwan village in Pingtung, southern Taiwan. Based in Taipei, he writes and performs in English, Mandarin, and Paiwan, weaving 1960s rock songwriting, folk-blues, punk energy, and Indigenous Taiwanese tradition into a sound that is simultaneously rooted and restless. His music carries the weight of a life lived between cultures —

Central to his work is an ongoing relationship with his Paiwan heritage — drawing on the culture, language, and sounds of his mother's village in Pingtung as a growing source of inspiration that he is gradually weaving into his songwriting

Billy's breakthrough came in 2022, when he won the Taiwan Beer Golden Generation competition and was appointed national brand spokesperson — a platform that brought his music to a mainstream Taiwanese audience for the first time. He followed this with the release of his single 我的WAY, which led to a wave of press coverage, YouTube features, and a national commercial — cementing his profile beyond the indie circuit and into the broader Taiwanese public consciousness.

In 2023 he appeared on Nasi, an internationally distributed indigenous compilation, with the track 不只是山和水 — earning Silver for Best Composition at the Global Music Awards. The momentum carried into 2025, where Billy and his band took both the Champion title and Best Band Award at Lokah 原音新浪潮, followed by the 2025 RockTone Judge's Award — confirming his place as one of Taiwan's most compelling live acts.

He is a fixture of the Taipei indie scene, hosting recurring Open Jam nights at BOBWUNDAYE and Red Room, and has competed and performed across Taiwan — His debut concept album is currently in development, targeting a 2027 release.
